San Diego, December 13, 2018 – NanoCellect Biomedical Inc., a leader in the development and manufacture of innovative tools for cell analysis and sorting, announces a new travel award program designed to stimulate novel application of the company’s cell sorting technology. To qualify, scientists must present a poster or talk at a major scientific meeting, citing data generated using NanoCellect’s microfluidic WOLF® Cell Sorter.

The first award recipient has just been announced – Lorena Rocha from the laboratory of Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk, Ph.D. at the University of California San Diego. Her abstract has been accepted at the American Society for Cell Biology 2018 meeting this month in San Diego. The abstract, “Role of the SIX6 transcription factor in the pathogenesis of glaucoma,” focuses on new transcriptomic and epigenetic details within retinal ganglion cells associated with glaucoma. The fragile retinal cells were carefully dissected from mice and then gently sorted using the WOLF cell sorter prior to molecular analyses including RNA-seq and ATAC-seq. Other cell sorting technology has not been able to ensure the integrity of such cells.

"Our team was excited to finally be able to sort fragile retinal ganglion cells for transcriptomic and epigenetic studies. The highly skilled NanoCellect team is great to work with and supported my group in developing our new assay,” said Skowronska-Krawczyk.
